AMBIENT-6G

Cooperative Mobile Robots

This use case focuses on enabling collaborative, autonomous mobile robots through the deployment of ENDs (energy-efficient sensing devices) across their environment or onboard. These ENDs provide critical data—such as object locations, environmental conditions, and infrastructure status—that enhances the robots’ situational awareness and decision-making.

Robots combine this external data with their own onboard sensors (e.g., cameras, motion detectors) to adapt to dynamic environments. Applications include:

- Warehouse logistics: Robots coordinate to manage inventory efficiently.
- Smart manufacturing: Teams of robots adapt to changing assembly line demands.
- Material handling: Fleets optimise transport across industrial sites.
- Infrastructure inspection: Robots perform predictive maintenance with minimal disruption.
- Disaster response: Swarms of robots collaborate in hazardous environments for search and rescue.
- AI/ML models running on the robots or at the network edge process both raw and contextual data, enabling real-time coordination, navigation optimisation, and task execution. This results in more predictable, efficient, and scalable autonomous systems.
