6G-VERSUS
AI-data driven monitoring and control of distributed renewable sources
The Bulgarian cluster aims to address a smart grid related use case for wide area monitoring and control (WAM&C) of distributed energy resources (DER) (e.g. wind farm, energy storage units) using beyond 5G communication technology. The 6G-enabled WAM&C of DER may prove the ability of small size DERs to participate in the electricity market for provision of ancillary services to the grid operators, such as ultra-fast frequency support (UFFS), and voltage regulation (VR) in order to compensate (mitigate) significant grid disturbances (such as sudden and large load changes or faults). The advanced control strategies integrated in the WAM&C will include distributed machine-learning (ML)-based agents for optimising DER dispatch based on predictive modes and decentralised decision-making, using both historical and real-time power measurements (e.g., current, voltage, active and reactive power) of the controlled grid assets.
