UC-CITIES-2 Automated logistics

The key characteristics to be taken into consideration in this use case, and that require advanced 5G and B5G
network features are:

  • The ability to remotely control the AGV by a human operator. This requires a constant connection to the network, thus increasing the reliability and availability of the network, as well as high throughput since video streaming should be sent to the remote operator.
  • The AGV should have sensors to detect other objects or people and estimate their distance to avoid accidents. In an industrial environment, this means that a high device density must be supported.
  • Route optimisation is useful as it will reduce the process time. For this purpose, heterogeneous data sources should be used to describe the appropriate location of the products, the current position of the AGV, and its destination.

For the demonstration of the above use case, the infrastructure located at the facilities of OTE, in Athens, will be
used. The infrastructure is based on the 5G SA architecture and will be upgraded to support the UC’s requirements.
