Collaborative Robots (Cobots)

Collaborative robotics typically involves multiple robots working together or with humans towards a common goal, such as transporting goods, assembling products, sharing manipulation tasks, or coordinating navigation through dynamic environments. The purpose of communication is to enable safety and cooperation, thanks to which robots and humans can perform functions that would not be possible to accomplish with their individual capabilities and local data. However, large data exchange is needed for this purpose. Then, the successful execution of tasks by collaborative robotics relies heavily on effective communication among robot nodes. This communication encompasses various types of information exchange, including task allocation and coordination, formation control, sharing sensor data, exchanging position and location information, providing status updates, and detecting and recovering from errors.

Goal-oriented semantic communication plays a crucial role in enhancing collaborative robotics communication capabilities. They allow collaborative robotics to exchange information in a manner that is more meaningful and easier to interpret, thereby facilitating smoother collaboration. Moreover, from a communication perspective, goal-oriented semantic communication reduces overhead and conserves spectrum usage, optimising the efficiency of the communication network supporting collaborative robotics operations.
